Autistan and autism

  • 1. Autistan is the “world of the autistic people”: In summary, it refers to everything that characterizes autism and autistic people.

  • 2. The main objective of the Autistan Diplomatic Organization is to inform the public authorities of the countries, so that they better understand the needs and difficulties of autistic people, with the aim of a “Correct Consideration of Autism Everywhere”, allowing the “Accessibility for autistic people exposed to disabling situations”, in order to reduce the “Socio-Generated Disturbances (Sensory, Mental or other).
Our organization is “Extranational”, it doesn't “interferes from the outside”, it offers complementary contributions thanks to a very broad approach, diverse and different, which allows for comparisons and reflections that are very useful to improve public policies.

  • 3. Autistic people don't suffer from “autism”: They suffer from the consequences of the absence of proper consideration of autism everywhere and, therefore, of the absence of public policies and measures that allow accessibility through the reduction of these external disturbances.

  • 4. To do this, it is essential to start by understanding that “autism” (which is a human difference with many qualities) is something different from the “autism disorders” (which are just problems, objective or subjective).

  • 5. Autistic people should be able to “learn about non-autism” in order to live by adapting to it, BUT without conforming to it, i.e., without being “forced to become non-autistic”, since the specific qualities of autism must be preserved, and the many dangerous social flaws and pitfalls must be avoided, in particular that which consists of creating self-esteem through “possible judgments by strangers”, which forces a kind of “dictatorship of the social image”, forcing people to “shine” (which is absurd, superficial and particularly toxic to autistic people).

  • 6. It is imperative that autistic people are not prejudiced in their interests or endeavors (except for the minimum rules of conduct), that they are not exposed to restrictions, overprotection or deprivation of liberty because of their autism.
This is unfair and, above all, it prevents any positive development.
The positive development of autistic people is only possible if they can follow “their own path of life”, which is inevitably not a common path, and which will be fostered by an unlimited multitude of possibilities, choices, chances, experiences, meetings, adventures, travels etc., and not the other way around: the restriction and aridity of a life that is even more limited and restricted than that of most non-autistic people (which is very “standardized and robotic”).
For this reason, it is imperative and essential that the PARENTS of autistic people are “educated about autism”.

  • 7. Freedom and experimentation are, therefore, essential, and the understanding of these principles (among many others that we can explain and demonstrate in detail) is indispensable if society wants to allow a better life for autistic people: freer, fairer, more fulfilled, with the same level of possibilities and chances as non-autistic people, in other words, a “real life”, dignified and happy.

  • 8. This would be possible if the autistic people who can explain these things were listened to carefully and if the public authorities made an effort and understood that the necessary modifications are not abusive: are corrections which benefit society as a whole.
Trying to awake attention and explain these things convincingly with examples and evidence from the “real life”: is the sole purpose of our organization.
